DH and I went to the Release of Information office at our VA medical center and he signed forms so I can get information about his medical treatments and that his doctors will be allowed to talk to me about his medical issues. I had been under the impression that his health care power of attorney would allow me to get this information, but that only kicks in if he is unable to act on his own behalf.
I hit all sorts of roadblocks back in July when I was trying to find out if a change in DH's meds were causing his latest issues. We dated the ROI forms so I can get this info for 20 years. I'm thinking now I wish we'd gone out 30 years. (I am such a small dreamer), but it will be my pleasure to have him around to still need the forms more than 20 years down the road.
They put the forms in the "system", but gave me a hard copy to show to medical personnel should I need to, and an extra copy I'll put in a file.
Since I only recently learned how to do this, wanted to share with all of you. So do you already have yours?
