What the World does not understand.................
Who would ever think underneath that smile plastered across my face while I am out in public that amount of stress I am in. Could they ever imagine how much energy it takes to keep it looking like we are all just one big happy family. It can be rather exhausting I can tell you. I work in an industry where people only want your services if you are a whole problem free person. Really.....where would you get one of those lives anyway in today's world with all it's problems.
I don't know if it was better when no one knew what combat PTSD was.....or know with all the precieved notions of what a Combat PTSD is capable of. TBIs are not a new thing....just a new recognized diagnoses. My dh was on a Quad 50 near Xuan Loc,Vietnam back in 1968-1969. It was it hit by a rocket mortor and blown out of commision. Two people on this vehicle died from the direct attack. I wont go into grahic detail but I am forunate to say my dh survived with wounds that he did survive from.. Back then when you were "blown " off a vehuicle they never said you had a TBI.....they just said you are a lucky SOB!.....get up and get going! It seems TBI's are the new thang! No its not.
I am happy ( most of the time....) that the Veterans from the recent Wars are not treated like mine was. But then again I feel many times because all the recognition they boast about recieving benefits entirely reserved for them only feels like a salt in my wound dealing with a Combat PTSD Vet for a very very long time. I wish someone would help my Veteran transition from a Combat Veteran who is Services Connected Disabilities are killing him. . It is very difficult when transitioning from an active employed man to a disabled one where death is the next step.
Well.....I guess I can say Thank You when they hand me the US Flag that will draped on his coffin when his fight is finally over!
