Terri and I call each other from time to time. Not only do we have combat PTSD spouses in common but both of us have been Home Child providers for many years! I usually do "lunch" via the phone several times a week. Upon occasion we call throughout the weekend. This is especially true if one of the other if not both are living the moment with Mr. PTSD in the home. Ladies there is comfort in numbers knowing you are NOT the only one who has a dh and a MR. PTSD!
I did not know Terri's had got Jake. I knew her Mr. PTSD had been roaring up with this trip to Mrytle Beach vastly approching. Yes, many of our dh's support our trip understanding we do need time a way just let our hair down and be amongst other ladies we don't have to explain anything to because they already know because they live it also. However, our dh's need us for comfort of just knowing we are there with them although they have a tough exterior verbally saying quite the oppsosite.
Last Sunday afternoon I called Teri for support. Her dh answered the telephone. Her dh has always been very polite but never offering much more than she is not home right now. Not just the takative type just giving what info is needed and not much more! Sunday was different. He called by name saying she was out and would be back shortly. He ended by saying to have a nice day! His voice had a life and a lift to it. He sounded Happy! Yes......I could hear it on the phone! I thought Wow this was great. What happened and could Teri bottle it up so I could give it to my Dh!
When Terri called me back she said I would not believe what she had done. I knew it could not be bad because her Dh was happy........so I asked what did you do? When she said she had got a dog my light bulb turned on. I knew that Dog had made a change in Terri's Dh......and it was one that was good.
Ladies I really believe in the home with a Combat PTSD Vet a dog can be such a lifesaver not only for the Vet but the Vet's family as well. Our Brinkley helps my household in so many ways they are much too numerous to list. The most importmant one Brinkley loves Unconditionally and never betrays Trust.Althought our Brinkley sniff blood sugars and has alerted many times in which medical attention has literaaly saved my Dh's life the above mentioned character traits are truly in my eyes the most important ones. Brinkley had not only shared his loyality with my Dh but is my most trusted confidant as well. I can tell that Dog ANYTHING ....and he never shares it with ANYONE!
So......if you don't have a pet please it consider it. It can and does make a difference in ones life . Not only the Vet themselves but the caregivers, spouses, and children as well.My house, car, RV, or boat I may not be able to keep but my dog will always come First ! He goes where ever we may go!
