I started reading Patience's book last year and put it down. It was just as I was beginning my therapy and I think I got caught up in my own stuff. I think now I can read it with different eyes. We can never fully understand the horrors that our loved ones endured. Now in my sixties, I realize how very young an 18-19 year old really is. When we were that age we thought we could take on the world. We actually knew nothing of life. To be put in a war zone and face the trauma of all that entails at such a young age should not have to happen to anyone. Their innocence and fervor for life was sucked out of them Looking back, it's a miracle that any of them survived as well as they have. They deserve all the respect that we can give.
