I recently finished the first section of Patience's "Recovering from the War" which is all Vietnam vets talking about war experiences. It was sort of a big deal for me to read graphic accounts of war. I have always been shy of war movies. Forest Gump is more my idea of a good Vietnam film. But I realize now that if I want to understand, I have to pull my head out from under that rock. I am going to watch Black Hawk Down this week. I complain he doesn't share any combat experiences with me, but someone made a movie about one of them and yet I have avoided watching it. What, am I waiting for him to make a date out of it or something?
